'Take the first step in faith, you don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.' - Martin Luther King
''My soul can find no staircase to heaven unless it be through Earths loveliness''- Michelangelo
This is an urban hiking blog created by Julian Michelucci. I have walked over 400 of the secret stairways in San Francisco, Berkley, Oakland, and Mill Valley. And I have also climbed stairs in Seattle and Portland. My goal is to do more stairways in the Los Angeles area. My favorite stairway is the Filbert Garden Steps which lead up to the Coit Tower. There are so many Secret stairways in the West Coast area. Many of them are very hidden and unexpected. Without the help of the community and all of the books I have collected, I would have not been able to find all of these stairs. What I love about all of these stair walks is not only the exercise and outdoors, but the history, art, and views that are connected.

The famous Filbert Steps (More than 2 blocks of steep stairs and paths) display some of the most charming parts of San Francisco and perhaps are most famous for it's wild parrots. This stairway traverses alongside loads of beautiful side yard gardens, old character homes, other secret paths, & culminates up to the famous landmark: The Coit Tower, which offers some of the most gorgeous views of the city and bay.
